"Zen-like simplicity" is a phrase a friend used the other day to describe her material aspirations after moving caused her to realize how much stuff she owned.
Well, friend, we've got you beat.
Fish, Minnow, Princess Pup, and I are holed up in Mystery City for at least another 10 days with no furniture and $6000 less in our bank accounts thanks to the (in)competency of Allied Movers.
They promised delivery between the 12th and the 16th, but now are telling us the 24th. But, don't worry, they say, it might have been August 18th. Aren't you lucky, it's not!
Generous souls that they are, they're giving us $200 to cover expenses.
Lack of bed, table, desk, crib, sofa, etc. and the usual travel-and-baby induced cold have me feeling rather blue.

I'm sorry - I hope everything arrives sooner than they expect. Moving is inherently painful and snags like that make it all the worse.
How terrible! I can't wait to hear more about Mystery City. And I like the new template (usually read this on Bloglines.)
:( Oh that is awful. $200! That's an insult.
Being a poor grad student in an expensive city, one could say I already live in Zen-like simplicity. We don't have any furniture in the bedroom except a mattress on the floor, and it's a pretty shoddy one. Managing without your own furniture and things could stink, but I imagine it's really hard with a baby who might be fussy about all the disruption to begin with. Does she sleep ok without her normal crib?
Ugh, moving stinks.
You all will laugh someday. . . . sorry about all that drama with a tiy baby. It will all be ok and you will apprecate your stuff much more when you get it.
Ciao
Maybe it will send you a postcard.
I'm so sorry to hear about the drama. Moving always sucks in some way or another, and it looks like you've won a box of extra big suckage.
Big hugs to you and yours.
Hope your furniture turns up as soon as possible! Maybe you can spend lots of time outside the house, whether exploring the new environment or tackling some of those tasks that need to be done?
It's such a pity... Unfortunately moving can be nightmares. I think it's better to have insurance on all your things and to check to see if the insurance cover is an `all-risk policy’, which means that your goods are not just covered in transit, but also during the unpacking process. And consider including property damage insurance as an extra. If you are very careful in choosing right moving company, then hiring a moving truck or man van or other self-drive transport enabling you to move your house contents is one of the most popular moving alternatives available due to its low cost.
