Every Other Thursday?

A reader asked me whether I knew about the book "Every Other Thursday: Stories and Strategies from Successful Women Scientists." In fact, the previous day, I had discovered the book on Amazon. I almost ordered it, but the $18 price tag held me back (instead I spent $25 on toys for Minnow).

Has anyone read the book? Would you recommend it?

If no one has read the book, or if it comes recommended, I'll order it, read it, and review it here. Maybe we can learn something.

I'd love to know as well.

See if they have it at the public library! It will save you $18 and shelf space. (My husband is a librarian and reminds me of this every time I buy new books.)

I liked reading it. I found it in my school library. The book is more about actively forming a support network and utilizing it in efficient ways than a revolutionary approach to solve problems women face in academia.

Allie - Sounds like a more immediately useful book than if it were indeed revolutionary.

Volcanogirl - Thanks for the thought - better for the environment too!. It is in the library here. Minnow and I will venture over there on Saturday.

Yes I agree that this sort of theme is relevant. I felt understood when I read the book and it gave me vocabulary I could use to explain things to my non-scientist husband. It was also somewhat depressing because there never seems to be an end to this sort of stuff however high up you are on the ladder. I would highly recommend it. If I weren't graduating soon, I would have offered to send up my library copy, but I am sure you can get it via ILL.

I read it and reviewed it briefly (link) a month or two ago. I'd certainly recommend it.
