I slept poorly and woke up a sore back. I can't quite stand up straight and if I try to walk favoring the sore side, I throw out my hip and shoulder. Now I am at school, working on the ol' revisions, and the heating pad is helping my back but making me sleepy. Would someone else like to take care of my body and life for me today? I think I need a vacation from it.

Poor ScienceWoman! And you are probably avoiding the caffeine (that might counteract the sleepiness), huh? I hate having a sore back because of sleeping. When I got a job with decent paycheck the first thing I did was buy a snazzy mattress. Unfortunately, although I don't get back aches from it, my partner *does.* Sigh...no winning the back pain from mattress wars. Maybe we'll have to get one of those sleep by number beds... Anyway, keep truckin' (hmm, interesting phrase, I've never before said that!) on the revisions. It's going to feel SO good to be done, soon!
I always keep a grain bag in my desk drawer. Just pop it into the microwave and then...heaven...
I have a similar ailment today. We both need a good stretch and some accupressure work.

Since you can't chemically alter your system, the next best thing from a psychological perspective is lighting. Office lights can be horrible for alertness. If it's at all sunny outdoors, you could try that. Good luck!
