the most tedious of days

All I've done in the past 10 hours is work with Excel. And I haven't even finished another graph (although I'm getting closer). This is awful.

The conference is less than a week away, and I haven't even started working on my talk. Because I still don't have the data to put in it! How did I get in this situation?

Avoidance of reality catches up with you sometime I guess.

graph 2 of 4 done. I'm going home, I suppose. I'm not hungry really, but the circulation in my hands is long gone. And I know I'll be a bundle of nervous energy until I can work some more. I have a meeting all afternoon tomorrow, so I am feeling a tremendous time pressure.

I used to spend my life toiling with excel and I feel your pain. All I can say is that learning the shortcuts will make your life better. If you have already learned them and it's still hell, I wish you luck. Excel is about the dumbest program ever written.

I am definitely getting more efficient in excel. I am now the master of macros and filtering, adding to my previous accomplishment at pivot tables. But it's still taking me two hours to reduce 26,000 points to 16,000, which will later be binned into groups of 100 resulting in a mere 160 points on my graph (out of eventually thousands).

I wanted to thank you for leaving the comment for me - how exciting! I tend not to comment, but I do enjoy your site very much. Hope excel worked out for you and the conference is a success.
